‘Talking about Excellence’: the promotion tour stops over at EM Normandie Le Havre

School's life

Les Entretiens de l’Excellence are stopping over for the first time in Le Havre, on Saturday 30 March 2019, from 1.30 to 6 pm, hosted on the EM Normandie Le Havre campus. Secondary school pupils will meet 50 professionals from all walks of life who have had outstanding career paths, to exchange on their occupations, their everyday life and their paths. A moment for free and genuine exchange to help them perceive the range of possible options for their future, to be better oriented and to remove possible social hurdles.

‘Last June, a survey showed that you needed 6 generations in France for someone from a poor family to reach the average income. This state of affairs is extremely shocking and proves the lack of social mobility in our country. As a Higher Education institution, it is our duty to set up action plans to act against that and to foster equal opportunity. In this respect, the Entretiens de l’Excellence are an excellent springboard!’ EM Normandie Director General Jean-Guy Bernard and Julien Soreau, Head of EM Normandie Diversity/Equal Opportunity Unit explained.

Two workshops to figure out your future

Co-organised by EM Normandie and Les Entretiens de l’Excellence National Association, with the support of Sciences Po Le Havre, this event will be sponsored by Ms Léa Lassarat, the President of the River Seine Estuaire CCI.
This afternoon event will start by a presentation of the scheme and testimonies of social mobility.
Pupils will then attend in smaller groups two workshops chosen among the 16 career track orientations offered. For two successive periods of 75 mins, they will be able to exchange on the range of occupations, the competencies required or admission conditions.

EM Normandie, a pro-active Grande Ecole on the topic of Equal Opportunity

EM Normandie appointed Julien Soreau in 2018 as Head of the Diversity & Equal Opportunity Unit, to pilot all actions in this respect and to give them a wider impact.
Among other actions, he coordinates in particular with 20 student volunteers the EDRESUP Social Mobility Scheme (Envie De Réussir Ses Études dans le SUPérieur). Accredited by Les Cordées de la Réussite  (http://www.cordeesdelareussite.fr ) and co-financed every year up to an amount of € 100,000 by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation,  the Commissariat Général à l’Egalité des Territoires, the City of Le Havre and EM Normandie, this scheme allows 250 Le Havre pupils to be supported in their studies from Year 10 to A-levels to develop their ambitions, to help them view their professional future ahead and to encourage them to take up Higher Education studies.
Julien Soreau also co-facilitates the Disability Workgroup of Conférence des Grandes Ecoles whose objective is to foster the inclusion of students with physical, sensory or specific disabilities, within Management and Engineering Grandes Ecoles. On the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of its Disability Charter, the Consortium signed a new commitment to set as an objective to guarantee equal opportunity for access to Student Society Life and sports, international mobility and professional life.
