The week-long exercise in selling the News Magazine's special issue on ‘500 years as seen by Le Havre inhabitants', published by 10 EM Normandie students, is now in full swing. From 22 to 28 March, the ‘Phexpress' student team will be present in all newstands in Le Havre, Sainte-Adresse and Octeville-sur-Mer to reach a record circulation!
For this 29th edition of the Défi L'Express Grandes Ecoles, the 20 pages of this special issue focuses on the City of Le Havre and its inhabitants. Included are a report on the 500 years of Le Havre as a city, its history and evolution as seen by city people, an interview with Ludovic Le Moan, who was born in the La Mare Rouge district and is now the CEO and co-founder of Sigfox, a world network dedicated to connected objects, news in brief and the city activities scheduled for this year of the 500th Anniversary of its foundation.
Finding an original angle in their investigation, writing reports, taking photos, dealing with advertising and sales: a protean adventure for the students!
Designing this supplement demands that students play multiple roles, missions and competencies. Over 6 months, they have had to try out all media occupations, from creating an internet website to investigating and copy writing, graphic designing and photos, to canvassing for advertising and communication, without forgetting to rig up a sales force for this week's selling exercise. To achieve all this, they have benefitted from support from a L'Express journalist for the copy writing, and the magazine's sales teams for advertising and selling. This real-life experience has demanded genuine team work, which was both motivating and a plus in their training. For L'Express, this has meant sharing with mutual enthusiasm their experience and the enterprising spirit of young people. Once the supplements produced by 11 teams in competition at national level have been sold, they will be judged by media professionals for the quality of their editorial contents, the relevance of the issue itself, the value of the photos, the advertising revenue, the number of copies sold, or their aptitude at meeting deadlines and the engagement shown by the team during the Challenge.
The winners for each category and the Grand Winners of the L'Express 2017 Challenge, from all criteria, will be revealed on 11 May during an evening event in Paris. The best teams will be rewarded with internships with the Altice Média & M6 Groups, air tickets, and multimedia gifts.
