In the aftermath of the earthquake in Ecuador on 16 April, M2/ MSc International Logistics & Crisis Management* students have worked with three NGOs --La Guilde, Ecuasol & Sail for Water – on the implementation of an emergency plan to save access to drinking water. ‘From a logistics point of view, it was essential to identify the optimal solution to act as fast as possible. Drinking contaminated water can cause gastric diseases, cholera and even mean death for weaker individuals', explains Jean-Christophe Crespel, the Director of La Guilde and a lecturer at EM Normandie. Their option: to rely on NGOs' local contacts to forward the purifying kits and drinking water buckets by targeting high risk communities in priority. 10,000 people have been helped so far and a call for donations has been launched to carry on with the operation (www.urgenceequateur.com).
* This programme will change names as from September 2016 to become the M2/MSc International Logistics & Port Management
